Fanny Smith: The 'genocide survivor' whose voice will echo through the ages

 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-27/fanny-smith-last-aboriginal-tasmanian/101250498

I have much respect for this truly amazing woman and the suffering that she had endured all through her childhood. Nothing; can justify this evil and nothing can ever compensate the aboriginal peoples that have suffered horrendously at the hands of  true evil disguised as Christianity and white colonialism. I can totally understand the anger and distrust up to present day. No human being is superior to any other human being full stop. This world will never change because humans keep doing the same things over and over again somewhere in the world.

This woman had amazing strength within her and has come through such adversity that we today cannot fathom. That strength of character will be forever in her family as time marches on. Hopefully keeping the aboriginal spirituality alive to be passed on because that connection to spirit is vital and must never be lost.

Doctors told Hans he was 'young and healthy'. Now he could have less than 12 months to live

https://www.9news.com.au/national/young-onset-bowel-cancer-australia-doctors-told-hans-he-was-young-and-healthy/0f59bc55-e29f-4c5c-b152-3267c90ae03c

Another young person dismissed by doctors and has bowel cancer. I am absolutely disgusted at the arrogance of doctors these days. My blood boils with anger at this. How the hell do these bastards get away with this negligence in the 21st century? I am going to keep posting news articles about young people that are disregarded by their doctors to show how common this actually is, especially with young women.

My heart goes out to this poor young man and his wife. They should be enjoying life together not having to deal with this. They probably didn’t know there is a medical advocate in hospital to reach out to if you disagree with the doctor and want results. You can put doctors on notice and say you wish to invoke the equivalent of Ryan’s Rule in your state or territory. That will make them do something fast or else face legal action. This is a medical ruling when a person is facing a serious life and death situation in a hospital, medical centre or even hospital in the home, a mental health facility etc. The law steps in on your behalf to protect you and get the life saving treatment you need. Do not let doctors bully or intimidate you, stand your ground.

My husband had to do this a few years ago, due to the egos of two doctors over who had the first dibs on treating him. Meanwhile my husband was deteriorating. All hell broke out as soon as the advocate stepped in. My husband was then rushed into theatre for surgery and then on a ventilator after that. I will never trust our local hospital now and any time that we have to go there I am watching them. I have no problem with the general nurses and doctors, they are usually wonderful hard working and dedicated to helping people. It’s the individuals that won’t listen that are the problem.

Never, ever let doctor push you around. Ask questions and if need be ask for a second opinion. Do not be afraid to go over their heads in a serious situation. Egos and power tripping should never be tolerated. You should see how women get treated having a miscarriage. I have been there and stood up to them and was taken into theatre. I was 38 not a young woman going through a miscarriage that often get sent home to deal with the baby passing in the toilet. I kid you not. This was standard back in the late 1990’s not all miscarriages are easy and there is often tissue left inside that can cause infection. Public health leaves a lot to be desired at times again this is not the fault of the general staff, it’s upper management.

Every state and territory has its own name for Ryan’s Rule. Read up on this and be informed on your rights. Even in a mental health situation, if you feel a loved one may try to harm themselves in hospital this law applies. Ryan’s Rule is not just for children, it’s for everyone.

Dr Jan Watson 1927 to 2021

What an incredible woman and well worth reading about. A pioneer of her time, I find it strange that men were so misogynistic back then and some even today, but Marie Currie was long before this woman and there already were well established female academics, doctors and whatever by the 1930’s and 40’s. Australian women were permitted to study at university from the 1880’s.

I know an old lady here in Canberra that is a volcanologist and she would have no doubt found difficulty when she started in her field. I often see her when out shopping; I used to chat at a local club to her husband who is a musician.

St Mary McKillop

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_MacKillop

I always have a photo of Mary McKillop in my office, I have read for her relatives several times, and all the women have her distinct eyes. I am  deeply honoured to have such a close brush with her family.

This woman had true Aussie grit and didn't backdown. I highly recommend reading her biography. She is Australia's first saint also.

Caroline Chisholm

 https://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/chisholm-caroline-1894

Caroline Chisholm was an amazing woman and her biography is a must read. I read her biography when I first came to Canberra almost 30 years ago and was very moved by her deeds. This woman did so much for women in Australia in the early days, she had seen heartbreaking stuff and took thing in her stride to get things done. What hampered her was rich protestant women, they refused to give her money to help the poor women, thinking that the money would end up in the Catholic church’s hands. She went all over New South Wales and down to Victoria helping home women and girls into jobs with families needing maids, cooks etc.

She helped unmarried mothers and their tiny babies, saving them from being on the street starving  to death.  When she returned to England she died penniless. Pretty unfair for a good person that did so much for others.

There is a Social Security building in the Canberra suburb of Greenway named in her honour. I drive past it practically every other day and I always think about her with the utmost respect. Caroline Chisholm was on the five dollar note for many years. Her good name and deeds should never be forgotten.

This is right on Athlon drive in Greenway which is a suburb of Tuggeranong and the commercial hub for the area. This building backs on to bushland and it is very common to see kangaroos here looking for food  at dusk.

Olive King

I read her biography years ago, what a brave woman. Australians need to delve into their history to learn about the amazing people that lived and put Australia on the map.

Thora Daphne Holzheimer Australia’s first female truck driver

What an incredible woman, what courage and in the heat of the outback too. Australia has produced some strong women over the centuries. Life for some is not walk in the park and takes every inch of their soul to survive against the odds.

Smudge the cat says, clear your toilet

Good advice, because sooner or later you will be driving the porcelain truck 🤣🤣🤣 AKA talking on the big white phone talking to god….. o...
