A big shout out to the surgical team and the nurses who cared for my husband

I know that I don’t always have kind words to say about the Canberra hospital, but from the moment my husband went in to have his much needed 5 hour surgery procedure last week, on 14 June, the medical care has been outstanding. From the lovely surgeon Dr Jana Balysooriya ( a truly lovely man and so genuine putting our minds at great ease ) the leading surgeon in charge of the procedure right through to every single nurse and doctor in theatre and on the surgical ward. Not to forget the lovely ladies that always have a lovely smile as they deliver meals and cups of tea and coffee. We truly appreciate every one of you, who has been there and we wish to express our deepest gratitude to all of the team.

This is what makes a good hospital, when everyone is working in unison as a team and communicating with each other. It’s not always the case unfortunately, but from the moment my husband went into surgery the care has been outstanding.

I am very much a person that likes to acknowledge the hard work and dedication to the patients by the medical professionals and their staff and support staff. Thank you for making this a wonderful experience for us we truly appreciate your care.

Update: Friday 21 June, A totally sleepless night last night,  and on my feet early this morning. I last slept two nights ago and I am so exhausted now. With everything going on with my husband and trying to keep everything going between home, hospital,  and caring for another family member. Sheesh, I am knackered and I hope that I can sleep tonight. My husband is home and resting in bed so that is good, no more hospital until his staples come out and his drains removed. We are aiming for next Monday for the final part of the journey. This has been a very long journey for us. The hard part was from January to last Friday with non stop complications and screw ups at the hospital.

Home from hospital

Today I was so happy to have my husband back home from hospital, it’s been a long few days with all sorts of issues happening. He is not 100% yet because he must have surgery, this will take a bit of planning because it is a complicated procedure due to his other health factors.

So it’s now being put on an urgent waiting list,  as his condition is deemed “no longer life threatening”. Delightful to hear, yet how long that waiting will be remains to be seen. The care he has been given was mostly excellent, yet understandably there are some frustrations due to shortages in hospitals these days that are beyond one’s control and we must just accept that fact. So here is hoping that the surgery is not too far away and it goes smoothly when the time comes.

I am just so grateful that he is home and resting, our dear little Ruby, our Jack Russell is over the moon that daddy is home. She too has missed her other favourite human. Hopefully now we can have a belated 60th birthday celebration at some stage over the coming days.

Warm and fuzzy hugs everyone

Update: Here we are on 19 March and my husband is still unwell and bedridden, having lost a significant amount of weight and muscle mass. He can barely eat, but one good thing is some of his blood tests are moving in a positive direction, slowly but steadily. I knew that it was going to be at least May before we see some positive results. Having had his gallbladder and kidneys damaged by other health issues has made life extremely challenging. The doctors are pondering whether to remove the gallbladder or not, meantime his health is not improving.

His other health problems including multiple abdominal surgeries make removing the gallbladder dangerous, yet with the gallbladder being blocked and unable to function properly puts his life in jeopardy. Clearly a decision must be made soon before things take a turn for the worse. We are acutely aware that surgery is potentially dangerous for him, but what is the option when faced with the current circumstances.

UPDATE 2 April

Well hubby is still unwell, his rapid weight loss has stabilised however his intestines keep twisting and pinching, blocking the digestive tract. I don’t think that this will be able to be resolved by surgery as it is such a high risk situation due to multiple abdominal surgeries over the years. This reduces the structural integrity of the abdominal cavity.

Meanwhile food keeps gets trapped in an intestinal pocket and rots, eventually it is brought back up the digestive tract which is extremely painful and causes bruising to his insides. Still no word from the hospital after the family doctor has sent two urgent requests for my husband to be seen asap. I do feel the life threatening situation has passed though, but that may not stay this way. Given how quickly his health can take a bad turn unexpectedly.

Private records of some Canberra Health Services patients 'deliberately' sent to industrial partner

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-21/private-medical-details-canberra-health-services-breach/102122822

WTAF?? I saw this on the news tonight and felt absolutely sickened. They won’t say if those responsible were sacked or not. A small amount of patients; as if that makes it ok?? One leaked is serious but 13 human beings life’s circumstances exposed. This is a cold premeditated deliberate act of absolute wickedness, god knows what effect this has on these individuals. I do hope that those involved are prosecuted and removed from the hospital never to work in healthcare again. These people are harmful to vulnerable people.

I do hope that a satisfactory outcome for the innocent individuals affected is possible. A full apology from the hospital, the department of health and whom ever is legally required to provide an apology. I hope that these people are adequately compensated for their suffering and dignity being violated for someone else’s gain. The recipient of this information should also be prosecuted, let’s hope that adequate justice will prevail in this matter.

Canberra Hospital's cardiac services has 'unacceptable' deterioration, doctors say

 https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8115255/unacceptable-and-dangerous-deterioration-in-cardiology-doctors-say/

And here we go again, the capital city of Australia’s Canberra Hospital further degrading in health care. This in not the fault of the hard working doctors and nurses. These doctors and nurses are stressed beyond repair and this obviously affects the quality of health care of patients including the patients mental health. Knowing their hands are tied by upper management, doctors and nurses are struggling to cope. In turn they can and do become snappy with their patients because of their inability to get upper management to listen and understand their concerns and public safety. This could end up with legal action against the hospital by patients should things negatively affect their health due to the hospital’s failures.

This is about money over peoples lives pure and simple. Remove the incompetent top brass and replace them with actual doctors with years of experience in their fields, not pen pushers that clearly don’t understand or even listen to serious medical advice given by doctors and nurses who are actually directly involved in their specialty area of care. Not little gods that fiddle while Rome burns.

The cardiology department working solidly, yeah right. So explain to me why I haven’t heard a word from the cardiology department yet? My referral was lodged a year ago but so far I haven’t received any response, my referral will have expired by now.

If the minister is not up to the job of managing the hospitals and the so called management then both she and the incompetent staff must be removed immediately. People’s lives are at risk, so how long is this train wreck allowed to continue? You’re call health minister, without the lip service bull shit!

Presently I don’t have faith in faith in an ACT Liberal government either. They have been unable to demonstrate their capabilities in leading over the past few years. This whole situation demonstrates to the public how much of an epic failure the health administration system truly is.

I would be terrified of having a life threatening illness and being under the care of this hospital;  given the current long term circumstances that don’t seem to be improving any time soon. My heart goes out to the sick and their families as well as the medical staff and their families trying to cope with this terrible situation through no fault of their own.

UPDATE: 27 June 2023: I finally got to see a cardiologist last month and the doctor was very nice and very apologetic. He should not have to apologise for something that is not his fault. Tests this Thursday.

ABC NEWS: Canberrans waiting to see specialists or undergo surgery through public health system face lengthy delays

 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-21/canberrans-waiting-specialists-or-surgery-face-lengthy-delays/101877738

Yet people keep voting these Labor muppets into office, this is over 21 years of Labor rule in Canberra. Labor couldn’t run a bath never mind the territory. Contrary to what people may think, Canberra has always been a Labor stronghold. But we don’t have enough doctors in Canberra including general practitioners, we don’t have enough nurses, we don’t have enough dentists, we don't have enough psychologists, we don't have enough psychiatrists, we don’t have enough veterinarians and we don't have enough police either. Yet this is the capital city of Australia. Why is it so under resourced and for so long?

Don’t move to Canberra unless you can avoid it. It’s a great place to live unless you have health problems. The Liberal Party are absolutely hopeless so they won’t get elected any time soon either. The hospital is rife with in-house politics and bullying, making it a toxic environment for several years. The mental health unit is abysmal and patients have been know to take their own lives, one patient was murdered by another patient recently and apparently the unit occasionally has patients that have escaped.

It doesn’t instal any confidence in a safe environment for patients who have mental health issues. I would not feel safe there. Accountability is just not a priority in this hospital and especially in the mental health unit.

I am still waiting myself for specialist treatment though  my conditions are not life threatening, only chronic pain etc and losing feeling and power in my hands constantly. I feel for people that are in dire health situations like my husband and thousands more.

But take a good look at the western world in general the public health system is deliberately being dismantled to push for private health. It's all about the money and not human lives. We the voters are ignored because we do not have financial clout to take on globalists.

The RIOTACT: Suspended Canberra Hospital specialist sues ACT Government for damages

 https://the-riotact.com/suspended-canberra-hospital-specialist-sues-act-government-for-damages/581373?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=ra&fbclid=IwAR0VaP1dA1RcuDsPZlIi0yw65x1JTW1gPTWtdnXrAIgXtRx-7q-EqCN4F18&fs=e&s=cl

This is an absolute disgrace and it reflects very badly on the management of the hospital, this has gone on for years. It’s not just the staff being mistreated it is also patients. The abuse towards women especially is bad. This is what to expect if you have people with big egos and the lack of manners.

One would assume that interpersonal skills were taught from the moment a medical student or trainee nurse starts their education and training that this is ingrained into them as part of their training and a knowledge of what constitutes abuse and harassment in the workplace and against patients.

If you want to be treated with respect then treat those around you with respect. Just because you are a doctor or management doesn’t exclude you from treating other human beings with dignity and respect. Otherwise you may be put in the position of earning respect the hard way.

Family of five-year-old Rozalia Spadafora, who died at Canberra Hospital, speaks out

 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-28/act-family-of-five-year-old-girl-died-at-canberra-hospital-speak/101276188?utm_medium=social&utm_content=sf259187688&utm_campaign=abc_canberra&utm_source=m.facebook.com&sf259187688=1&fbclid=IwAR3hrpyOQaA_c6z8mBQ_M1Y91n0jaLuCTWFpk_uzryKD6gu8s5a2WaMdDIw

Another disgrace from the Canberra hospital. Another reason for invoking Ryan’s Rule, things should have been escalated. Absolutely horrific, this hospital is like a second rate hospital and nothing changes.

You vote labor this is what you get! Twenty years of screw ups. If the public are so keen on having a labor government this will keep happening.

Update: This was on tv tonight on A current affairs, not once did I hear them mention your right to ask for the medical advocate at the Canberra hospital. Why not? This is every patient’s basic right is a hospital if you are unhappy with the way you or your loved one is being treated and that includes hospital in the home. Learn your rights please don’t be afraid to be heard and demand proper medical care and answers. A life may well hang in the balance, speaking from personal experience!

'It was bad enough giving birth to a dead baby': another traumatic birth experience at Canberra Hospital

 https://the-riotact.com/it-was-bad-enough-giving-birth-to-a-dead-baby-another-traumatic-birth-experience-at-canberra-hospital/576545?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=ra&fbclid=IwAR0TPVbjnP_kkZdNSo7ziLpJxVcy_q_urCcuXBIRc2n7I8E4cntBo8vOKmw

Poor woman, I am astonished at the poor treatment and then  told to get over it. Yeah, I would be lodging a formal complaint. Not just that I would have called the medical advocate and the health minister and anyone else that would put a rocket up the Canberra Hospital and the doctors.

This is totally unprofessional and inhuman treatment of any one going through what this woman has been through. Misogyny on steroids mentality. I hope she sues the arse off the hospital. This is utterly disgusting and inhuman behaviour from health professionals. Like I said already, I am going to keep posting things about the shocking state of the medical system. I am utterly disgusted by this and the woman put through this shocking treatment not to mention the arrogance and insensitivity in the way she has been treated. This should never be tolerated ever.

Coroner says Canberra Hospital failed four patients who took their own lives

https://the-riotact.com/coroner-says-canberra-hospital-failed-four-patients-who-took-their-own-lives/444404?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=ra&fbclid=IwAR3HH6hR9Vlf_HglDIOaMPPclcssK2nj1VSOVqLzMBuXY-SVc7a_8Zh1nQk

Yet again the Canberra hospital let’s down those in desperate need of help. Not bloody good enough, I am sick to death of the third world mental health service of this hospital. How many more deaths does it bloody take? Who is going to be held accountable for this? Answer, No one.  We have a mental health service that is short staffed and under trained, for more years than I care to remember. Not just that;  try and get an appointment with a private or public psychiatrist or psychologist in Canberra anywhere, it just ain’t happening. If you are in a hurry for help go to Sydney, because you wait months and months in Canberra and many doctors books are closed.

Report says progress being made on health culture but bullying must be addressed

 https://the-riotact.com/report-says-progress-being-made-on-health-culture-but-bullying-must-be-addressed/381189?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=ra

The bar was set low a long time ago. I call this a piss poor effort, the system is an ongoing train wreck that no one wants to fix.  This has gone on for years and ticking only six out of twenty in the box is not good enough, it is failure. How the hell can Mr Reid call this great progress?

When you vote in morons continuously this is what happens. Andrew Barr and his party couldn’t run a bath, never mind the territory, and neither could any of his predecessors in the Labor party. The ACT Labor government has let us down for many, many years. But idiots keep voting them in and then whine when they cannot get proper health care.

If the voters can’t see what the problem is then they are clearly unfit to hold the right to vote. This is Stockholm syndrome by the voters to allow this to keep happening over and over since 2001.

However this culture of bullying and harassment is down to the minister and the manager of the hospital to stamp it out. This bullying and harassment is from educated people, that have received training on workplace bullying and harassment. There is no way on earth they were not trained on what is and isn’t bullying or harassment. There is no way they don’t know what they are doing is wrong and illegal.

Every public servant has to be trained on that. No doubt highly educated individuals are the perpetrators and no one is prepared to stop this. Nothing short of legal action will stop this going on. Victims must push for legal action, and some of the victims are people that hold a university degree, how on earth are they so weak that they do not fight this?  If the manager of the Canberra hospital and the health minister cannot put an end to this with in 12 months they need to be removed from their positions and put people that are better suited to replace them.

Yes, I know what it feels like, I have been through this as a federal public servant, and I was very young and pregnant at the time and the laws were in place then to protect people,  I was also being intimidated by upper management and the union was bloody useless.

But this here case has many staff involved, so why are they not taking out a class action? This culture does flow on to the patients too, because of the staff being stressed. That is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

We have the ACT territory’s elections later this year, and I know without a doubt the ACT
Labor will be back in, why? Because we have undereducated morons that are allowed to vote. Nothing ever changes in Canberra, it is a safe communist lovers electorate for all the lefties and undereducated masses. Yet these individuals will bitch and whine about the poor medical care, go figure.

Getting proper medical care in Canberra if you have a serious health problem, needing a specialist or heaven forbid a psychiatrist is almost impossible. I am speaking from experience and serious illness too. People need to go up to Sydney because our town is a primitive backwater, an embarrassment for being the capital of Australia. Things are worse at present due to COVID 19, so more people will become sicker while having to wait for medical treatment.

If the chief minister could actually do his job and actually put the minister of health on notice along with hospital management etc, we might get a result......well may be in an alternate universe definitely not in this one.
